DIY Pop Tab Purse

Directions for Making a Pop-Tab Purse

I am in the process of making this bag so I will update this site as I finish the pieces of my bag, and ultimately, the entire project. Can't wait!
I saw a pop tab purse in a local boutique for $300 and thought ... I can make that myself. I searched the web for weeks but found no directions that created a similar look. I have, through trial and error, figured out the look I was going for and figured I would post them myself.
What you will need:
  • lots of pop-tabs - I am not finished mine but I think I will use around 750
  • string - I found a string factory in my city that makes shoelaces and more. I bought a string covered in a metalic layer. I would have preferred a silky silver coloured string but could not find it anywhere. You will also get a great, but different effect if you use coloured string.
  • scissors
Steps in making my bag:
1. Wash and dry your pop tabs - they may look clean but they are not.
2. Sort pop tabs so you are using the style you want. I used the rounded tabs, just silver, with an oval on both sides.
3. Plan your design. You might want to make a pattern out of paper so that you are building sides of your bag to match your pattern. I picked up this black notebook bag at Dollarama and decided to build my bag around this. I am going to keep it in the bag so that the inside of the bag is soft. It is approximately 8 x 10 inches. Here is the bag I used for my lining.
I am working on this today - I will keep you posted as I progress. Please leave comments ...
